At its premiere Beethoven’s Eroica was described by one critic as “a daring, wild, fantasia of inordinate length and extreme difficulty of execution.” And it is a magnificent masterpiece to open this year’s festival.

Mozart’s wonderful Sinfonia Concertante introduces two of our distinguished Artists in Residence, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra opens with a 150th birthday tribute to Sibelius, his atmospheric re-composition for strings of an early choral piece.
