Back to Bach - the Dunedins return - Lammermuir Festival

Johann Sebastian Bach featured strongly in last year’s Lammermuir Festival, and he’s back this year. In fact we want him to have a place in the festival every year – not just because he’s so immeasurably great, inspiring, life-enhancing, etc. It’s also partly because we’re lucky enough in Scotland to have an ensemble that now ranks among the world’s leading baroque music groups – the Dunedin Consort – and its Music Director, John Butt, is acknowledged as a leading Bach authority. With him the group has not only made award-winning recordings of Bach and Handel, it’s been listed by Gramophone magazine as No 11 among the world’s top twenty choirs! So we at the LF are proud of our continuing association with the Dunedins, and once again they give our closing concert, at St Mary’s Haddington, on Sunday, September 25. They’ll be tackling two of Bach’s motets and his wonderful double violin concerto before rounding off Lammermuir 2011 with Handel’s brilliant Dixit Dominus. Last year they gave us Bach’s B minor Mass on a truly memorable last night in a sold-out St Mary’s. If you missed it, here’s a clip from the concert:
