Coffee Concert VI - Beethoven Piano Trios IV at Lammermuir Festival

Taking their name from Van Baerle Straat, the address of Amsterdam’s famous Concertgebouw, this Dutch piano trio has emerged in recent years as one of the world’s finest. Acclaimed for the virtuosity and unanimity of their playing their residency at this year’s Lammermuir Festival brings a complete cycle of Beethoven’s piano trios to our popular morning Coffee Concerts – great music superbly performed.

Dedicated to Beethoven’s pupil Archduke Rudolph, younger brother of the Austrian Emperor, the Op 97 Trio is rightly the best known of the series – a truly noble masterpiece on a grand scale, composed in 1811.

Lammermuir Festival . . . 'the first notes come fresh and resonant with vibrations you just don't hear even on the highest hi-fi. No, you can't get this at home.'

Holy Trinity Church, Haddington

Holy Trinity stands on the site of a Franciscan friary (the original ‘Lamp of Lothian’ before that title passed to St Mary’s Church nearby) which was built here in the 13th Century. The friary was demolished in 1572, and almost two centuries later, in 1769, work was begun on a ‘qualified’ Anglican chapel which was finally consecrated as Holy Trinity in 1815. The present chancel was added and the interior remodelled in an attractive neo-Byzantine style in 1930.
