Music for Clarsach and Small Pipes

Emily Hoile clarsach
Alice Burn Northumbrian small pipes

Emily Hoile is an extraordinarily talented recent pupil of St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and now studies classical harp at New York’s prestigious Juilliard School of Music. She is giving a number of performances at this year’s festival.

Equally brilliant as a clarsach player, Emily and Alice Burn were finalists in the 2009 Radio 2 Folk Awards.  Here they offer a delightful mix of traditional and modern tunes for an autumn evening.

Yester Parish Church, Gifford

With a commanding presence at the top of Gifford's Main Street, Yester Parish Church is a fine example of the traditional T-plan Scottish kirk, white harled with a bold square tower topped by a spire.

Completed in 1710, it was recently restored, its stunning interior adorned with some exquisite original woodwork.
