Sansara is one of the most exciting chamber vocal ensembles of today, noted both for outstanding performances and innovative programming. The glorious acoustic of Musselburgh’s gold-decorated Catholic church will be flooded with equally glorious sound in this extraordinary concert of music for voices and live electronics. Sansara’s inspiring, ear-opening programme features Palestrina’s beautiful Stabat Mater as well as Jonathan Harvey’s exquisite arrangement of it and investigates relationships between humanity and technology in both ancient and new music, introducing new musical textures and striking sound effects.

Sansara slips easily into the elite ranks of exceptional performers…breathtaking.

Our Lady of Loretto, Musselburgh

This impressive church began life as Lady Mary Oswald’s mission chapel in 1843 and was converted into the catholic church of Our Lady of Loretto in 1880. There was an extensive rebuild, by the Edinburgh architect Archibald MacPherson with AE Purdie of Canterbury, in 1903 when the church, presbytery and hall took their present form. It is a cruciform building with an elaborate altar and sanctuary whose walls are covered in gold leaf artwork, depicting events in the life of Jesus, corresponding to the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.
