Alec Frank-Gemmill Horn

We are delighted to open the Festival in Dunbar for the first time. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is reunited with its Conductor Emeritus in a programme that begins and ends with the awesome magnificence of Beethoven.

Richard Strauss’s horn concerto is both heroically virtuosic and warmly lyrical, and there’s no better exponent in Britain today than the SCO’s own Alec Frank-Gemmill, Lammermuir Artist in Residence for 2013.

“The Beethoven was irresistibly done, full of Sturm und Drang intensity, striking dynamic contrasts and much fine individual playing”
