2021 FESTIVAL UPDATE . . .

100 things to love about 2021
“This delightful festival . . . features top rank musicians, playing in beautiful venues in a lovely tucked-away corner of Scotland.”
Daily Telegraph, Round of Cultural Events in UK in 2021, 2 January 2021

Hello. We can’t help feeling hopeful that we will be able to welcome you in person to a 12th Lammermuir Festival from 7 to 20 September 2021: a live programme of beautiful music in beautiful places across East Lothian. Our plans include new venues and a rich and varied menu of great music from outstanding artists, among them old Lammermuir friends such as Quatuor Mosaïques, Dunedin Consort, Tenebrae, Chloë Hanslip and Danny Driver. And we’re delighted to welcome new visitors including vocal ensemble Gesualdo 6 and American pianist Jeremy Denk, this year’s Artist in Residence. We’ll be in touch again this summer with the full line up and booking details. Until then, to receive email updates please do sign up to our mailing list and, if you are not already a member of the Lammermuir Festival family, please consider supporting us by becoming a Festival Friend.

We can’t wait to see you again in September!

What the press say

‘This festival’s subheading is beautiful music, beautiful places. It fulfils its promise’
★★★★★

The Observer

‘There’s a quiet class about the whole thing that generates a special kind of listening: for all the dark arts of conjuring festival ambience, Lammermuir tends to simply programme right and let the music do the talking’

The Guardian ****

‘The Lammermuir Festival is now twelve years old, and it is one of those events that has evolved a fiercely loyal local following while casting its net far and wide for both audiences and artists. Based in the sunny county of East Lothian, the festival’s selling point is to stage concerts by leading artists in some of the county’s most beautiful, tucked-away historic venues, and the festival has done such a good job of it that its reputation is sky-high. Last year it existed online only, of course, but this year it’s not only back to live audiences but it has extended by a few days so that it is a fortnight long. Bravo to that!’

Seen and Heard International (Lammermuir Festival 2021)

‘A remarkable experience – The Lammermuir Festival, founded only in 2010, is going from strength to strength under artistic directors Hugh Macdonald and James Waters.’

‘This was an intimate performance that invited the audience in. It’s easy to think about live music as the experience of being performed to; this was a reminder that some of the best performances are like overhearing a private conversation among friends.’
