So Why a Festival in East Lothian - Lammermuir Festival

What do successful festivals have in common?  Salzburg, Edinburgh, Aix en Provence, St Magnus, Granada are all places you would visit for a holiday whether there was cultural activity there or not.  The same goes for East Lothian.  It has the largest number of listed buildings in Scotland.  It has hills, sea, heritage and a number of really extraordinary venues.  hence our strap line of ‘Beautiful Music, Beautiful Places’

Apart from place there is also the issue of when and what?  Lammermuir Festival’s dates are carefully positioned to be at the end of Scotland’s great season of music festivals. This runs from Perth in May through St Magnus in June, East Neuk and Paxton in July to the big brother of Edinburgh in August.  Lammermuir can perhaps be seen as a charming sylvan sorbet between the largest arts festival in the world and the opening of the winter subscription seasons.

Classical Music because it fits perfectly with the venues we have and September because of the beauty of the light and the turning leaves.

Also – in festivals there is always a role for the unexpected!
