Scotland’s elite string ensemble is joined by sensational trumpet player Alison Balsom for this unmissable concert in Inveresk’s landmark parish church.

Two baroque trumpet concertos frame a short work specially commissioned for her and the ensemble from James MacMillan. The concert begins and ends with some of  Handel’s most inspired orchestral music.

St. Michael’s Church, Inveresk

This late Georgian parish church (Robert Nisbet, 1803-5) stands on a site which has been a Christian settlement since the 6th Century.

Perched on a hill above the picturesque village of Inveresk on the banks of the River Esk, its tall spire is a landmark for miles around.

A large rectangular box-church with a magnificent classical interior and a fine Lewis organ, its vibrant acoustic makes it an excellent concert venue.

Musselburgh is just off Edinburgh City Bypass, not far from Fort Kinnaird Retail Park and Asda. Take Newbigging/Inveresk route from Musselburgh
