Salonen “lachen verlernt”
Bach Partita No 2 in D minor for solo

Jennifer Koh violin

Bach’s solo violin music, performed in the 14th century Great Hall at Lennoxlove, continues Lammermuir’s special interest in his music.  The programme concludes with the magisterial Chaconne – the unforgettable climax of the D minor Partita.

The Bach frames three short meditative works by three stellar musical figures of today in Elliot Carter, Kaija Saariaho and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Jennifer Koh describes this programme as “moving from light to darkness and back to light – Bach’s Chaconne is the ultimate journey of reaching a transcendence through struggle…”

“Koh’s white-hot imagination and her focused, sweet-toned playing made this a performance to remember”

Lennoxlove House, Haddington

Dating back to the middle ages, Lennoxlove House reflects the myriad of family, political and social influences that have shaped Scottish history.

Owned originally by the Maitland family and later by the Blantyres, since 1946 it has been the seat of the Dukes of Hamilton who brought from Hamilton Palace an extensive inheritance of historic furnishings and art.

Mary Queen of Scots and Chopin are both reputed to have slept here. The barrel-vaulted Great Hall is in the oldest, 14th Century, part of the house.
