This young French quartet made a sensational debut at last year’s festival and we welcome them back with two terrific programmes, the first in Stenton’s lovely old kirk with Beethoven’s late B flat quartet and its formidable companion, the amazing ‘Great Fugue’.

They tore through the drama of the First Quartet with thrilling precision, investing it with all the psychological intensity and driving power that it deserves . . .

Stenton Parish Church, Stenton

William Burn, pioneer of the Scottish Baronial style, designed many fine buildings in Scotland including St John the Evangelist in Edinburgh's Princes Street.

His splendid little church (1829), Stenton Parish Church, in the tranquil village of Stenton brings St John's to mind with its impressive square tower. Beautifully simple inside, its acoustic is ideal for chamber music.
